CEC ArtsLink - Independent Projects

Application Deadline: November 6, 2006

Independent Projects awards support artists and arts managers from Central/Eastern Europe, Russia and Eurasia who plan to undertake projects in the United States.

Applicants must have a letter of invitation from a U.S. non-profit organization in order to apply for an Independent Projects award. If you do not have a letter of invitation, please consider the Residencies program.

Program Description
Independent Projects awards provide funding to artists and arts managers who propose to undertake projects in the United States in collaboration with a U.S. non-profit arts organization. Awardees are responsible for arranging all the details of the project including all travel and housing arrangements. Proposals must be thoroughly researched and clearly describe the project. They must include a detailed budget that indicates exact resources and expenses.

ArtsLink accepts applications from contemporary and traditional creative artists working in the performing, design, media, literary and visual arts and arts managers at independent, non-profit and government organizations working in these artistic disciplines. Applicants must be citizens of, and reside in, an eligible country (see below). There are no age limitations.

Students, amateurs and scholars are ineligible. Arts managers must be affiliated with an organization in the non-commercial sector. Artists seeking to work with commercial firms are ineligible. Incomplete applications or applications lacking the required support materials will not be considered.

Review Criteria
Independent Projects applications will be evaluated by a review panel comprised of U.S. arts professionals based on the following criteria:

* Applicant’s ability to independently manage the logistical details of the proposed project
* Artistic or professional excellence of the applicant’s work
* Extent to which independent work with a U.S. arts organization is consistent with the applicant’s artistic vision, creative goals and professional development
* Benefit to the applicant, at this time in his/her career, from interaction with U.S. artists and audiences
* Applicant’s plans for sharing the benefits of the exchange with artists and institutions in her/his home country

Award Amounts
Independent Projects awards of up to $5000 will be disbursed to the U.S. non-profit organization with which the Awardee will be working.

Important Information
The selection process is extremely competitive and applicants should anticipate a highly rigorous review of their work. Applicants are advised to submit quality work samples, for example, slides, videotapes, audio works and manuscripts. Applicants should make sure their work is properly labeled, video or audiotapes are properly cued, and that all work samples are properly described on a work sample sheet. All pages should have at least a 3cm bottom margin.
