Model European Union will take place from April 25th to May 1st in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
The conference aims to bring together over 120 young Europeans.
Applications for MEU 2009 are now possible!
The simulation takes place in the European Parliament's premises and it simulates the EU decision-making procedure. The European Parliament, the Council on Ministers and The European Commission (the main decision-making institutions, also called the "institutional triangle", which defines the policies and adopts the legislation under the form of directives, regulations and decisions to apply throughout the Union), the press and influence groups will be represented. In principle the Commission is responsible for proposing new European legislation, while the Parliament and the Council are responsible for adopting it. The Commission will not be played by the participants.
To participate as a Member of Parliament, a member of the European Council, a lobbyist or a journalist, you will need to visit our site www.meu2009.org . You are asked to fill out the upcoming application form and to write a short essay of up to 700 words about ONE of the following topics:
1. In your opinion, how will the Lisbon Treaty affect the EU?
2. The EU is often accused of being too distant from the Europeans. Discuss.
Application
If you are reading this you probably have at least half an intention of applying. Well, we are very happy about it! We hope that you will pursue this idea and give us the opportunity of reading your application. We might also meet you in April for a fantastic week of diving into the wonderful world of European politics and great experiences!
The application period is now open. It consists of two phases: the priority period and the non-priority period. Like the name indicates, applications received during the priority period will be handled first. Applications received afterwards will be considered if places are still available. The priority period will close on the 7th of March at 23:00 GMT+1.

Application procedure
1. Write an essay of about 700 words about ONE of the following topics:
a. In your opinion, how will the Lisbon Treaty affect the EU?
b. The EU is often accused of being too distant from the Europeans. Discuss.
2. Fill out the application form
3. We will notify you if you are selected. Then you will have to pay the participation fee of 100 Euro and you will receive more information about the event and how to prepare your assigned role.
4. Have a good time in Strasbourg.
